There are too many things in this house that poop.
The kids are all double-digits, so they are more or less potty trained.
The cats are fairly fastidious, but I give up on our old Chihuahua. Now it’s just a matter of waiting for her to croak before I can stop bleaching my bathmats.
I have a rule that the kids can’t talk about their birthdays until the birthday month. On September 1, I was presented with this list.
Well played, youngest child. Well played.
This puts me in a bind. We do not need another pet in this house. Pets are smelly (mine are the smelliest) and expel copious amounts of hair and dander.
My husband is a saint to let us have the three pets we already have. He’s allergic to cats, is on allergy medicine and has gone through a series of shots from an allergist.
I can’t say part of me doesn’t want a new kitty. My older cat, Figaro/Fergie (it’s a long story), is 15 and not in good health.
She is the best little kitty. Now I feel like it’s my job to make her as comfortable and happy as possible while she still feels good. She enjoys very expensive cat food, long naps on laps and snoozing in the sun. It’s not a bad life.
She’s very cuddly. We think she’s a breed called the Ragdoll. They are fluffy as bunnies and never struggle when they are held.
She was a stray we adopted, so we’ll never be sure what breed she is really, or I’d pay money to get another cat just like her. She’s such a good pet, I’d have her cloned if that weren’t creepy and way beyond by price range.
So, despite finding out that the SPCA is hosting adoptions next weekend at our local pet supply shop, we are not, not, NOT getting a new cat.
Pretty sure.
Probably not.
I really mean it.
Anyone know the best place to get a kitty? It must be a baby cat and fluffy.

SPCA. Craigslist. Freecycle. Petfinder.
We will not be getting another cat, in deference to Ed, our current cat who is neurotic and loves being an only cat. My children understand that. Except the oldest one, who loved being an only child and thinks I should have held that same standard with our family planning. However, Ed will not be cold in the ground before those children will be on Petfinder.
Thank you, I guess. Heavy sigh.
We have a wonderful kitty, too. He is probably Maine Coon, but like you we don’t really know because we adopted from the Humane Society.
Our kitty is 11 now. He’s still in excellent health. I hate thinking that he’ll be gone one day.
I still have dreams of getting a Basset Hound, though. One of these days! Just not right now.
My animals seem to have more trouble keeping stuff DOWN than pooping it out. (post coming in a day or two).
I just found a Basset for adoption on one of those sites mentioned by Jen.
The people who lived here before us had one, and a lot of the doors still show damage that dog did. It gnawed at every door frame in the house.
PUSHOVER!!! You’re such a PUSHOVER!!!
Ya’are 2 a SuperMom.
I feel deceived.
False advertising, I tell ya!!!
I’m not going to clean up after it.
Don’t do it…You’re about to be free!! Run for your life!
I know. But the puppy eyes will get the kitty.
Oh it’s happening. You can’t even control yourself. 😉
It’s part of my charm.
SPCA or our strategy-one just shows up and doesn’t go away, ever.
There is an SPCA event Saturday. Not that we are going. NO WE ARE NOT GOING.
Smart girl– though your poor husband, that does not sound fun. I love kitties- cats not so much. Why do they have to grow up? 🙂
How cute! My daughter wants a dog but since no one in my house seems to know how to clean up after themselves, I am standing my decision of NO. I don’t need another “person” to pick up after. LOL.
Your husband is a saint but if his allergies are that severe then perhaps a different pet? How about a bird or hamster (both will need to be kept away from kitty). Then talk to your daughter about how it’s important to also respect the needs of others in the household.
