My kids are Hobbits. No, they don’t have hairy feet, but they do eat a lot. In addition to the meals I provide for them, they like an after-breakfast snack, a pre-lunch snack, et cetera, et cetera. No way can I or will I cook that much. So, what is a Hobbit to do for Elevensies?
In our pantry and fridge, some foods are considered out of play (earmarked for a meal or a special treat) and some foods are in play. In play means the kids can eat at will. For us, cereal is always in play.
Since I was raised on bowls of organic nuts and twigs, I can’t bring myself to buy cereal that’s too sugary and basically grain candy. I stock our shelves with things I consider to be tasty and wholesome at the same time.
My kids were excited to see the box of Honey Bunches of Oats Greek Honey Crunch cereal sent to me by Mom Central.
“Yay, good cereal!” said one of my kids.
“Can we eat this now, or do you have to take pictures of the box first?” asked another. Luckily, the answer was “both!” (That’s a sleep mask on her head. Sleep masks are cool.)
You can learn more about the specific nutritional information at the Honey Bunches of Oats cereal website. In a nutshell, what I liked was that it has a third of the recommended daily allowance of fiber.
My kids don’t care it’s packed with 33 grams of whole grains per serving, they only know that they liked the taste and the crunch. They eat it by the handful out of the box, and I’m okay with that because I feel like it’s good for them.
Check out the Honey Bunches of Oats website for detailed nutritional information about all twelve varieties, and also coupons, promotions and recipes. I’ll tell you that I like Honey Bunches of Oats Greek Honey Crunch cereal on top of layers of Greek yogurt and sliced strawberries. It’s a parfait–for breakfast!

Breakfast cereal is my comfort food.
My kids will eat it six meals a day if I let them.
