I’ve shopped at the same Food Lion for fourteen years. Some of the staff know me by name and most know me on sight.
We can literally walk there and back from my house, and frequently do.
Over the last year, though, I’ve defected to the newer local grocery store a few miles away for my big weekly shopping trip.
This other store has a Wine Guy and fresh sushi made by real Japanese people, so you know it’s fancy.
Still, Food Lion was the old standby. I’d call my husband to stop there on the way home from work for a last-minute ingredient or a movie from the Red Box.
In my mind, Food Lion did not save me significantly more money than the Other Store. Also, we have been eating a lot more fresh produce and organic food and I didn’t think Food Lion could compete in selection.
When I went to my old, reliable Food Lion for this review, I was very surprised at the recent changes. The produce section was greatly expanded. Everything looked very fresh. I was pleased they had increased the selection of vegan and vegetarian items.
They have the same kinds of organic juices and tofu I have to drive twenty minutes to buy at A National Chain That Specializes in Organic Food, but at a noticeably lower price.
My Food Lion has also expanded their selection of packaged organic foods and other specialty foods, like gluten-free options. I was very pleased with what was available in their “Nature’s Place” aisle.
And Food Lion is a place where you can still save money. They have hugely increased the number products in their store brand, My Essentials.
The My Essential items we tried were very good in price and quite comparable in quality to name brands I’ve used.
Even my husband remarked that he liked what I’d picked out for us to try from the My Essentials line. The mini ice cream sandwiches are our favorite weekend treat!
Before shopping at Food Lion, plan your trip with a visit to the Food Lion website. You can see the weekly sales and get valuable coupons.
I was impressed with the changes Food Lion has made and plan on shopping there more often.
I would like to challenge Food Lion to reduce the number of their My Essential products that contain high-fructose corn syrup. I know it can be done, because I drive across town to shop at a chain that has NO hfcs in any of their store brand items, and still have low prices.
Part of my trip to Food Lion involved shopping for ingredients to test a recipe. Food Lion has hundreds of recipes available online. We made the Garden Pasta Salad.
It was so easy, my youngest made it herself with a bit of help. It was so delicious, she was bursting her buttons with pride. This is a great dish for warmer weather, and vegetarian to boot.
I’m giving away a fifty dollar Food Lion gift card, so you can shop and see the improvements for yourself!
Good luck!
“I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central for Food Lion. I received a gift card and product kit to facilitate my review.”

We have Food Lion less than a mile from our house. We shop there on occasion.
we don’t have one close but we would use it when we go on vacation this summer thanks
We had some Blooms that “changed back” to Food Lion – should go back and see how different it is!
I haven’t shopped at Food Lion since I lived in your neck of the woods. Not because of any ill will towards them, just lack of store anywhere nearby. :p
We don’t have one close by us, but there is one in the town where college boy lives. How awesome it would be to give him a gift card for groceries!
We don’t have FL near us here, but I’m always pleasantly surprised by the quality and selection at the FL where we shop one week/year at the beach. Glad you’ve found lots of what you need there! 🙂
we have Food lion
I don’t shop there regularly though.
I wish I got this promotion, I recently went into our food lion, out of my normal way and was totally impressed with the variety there. If they had gas perks I would definitely be there.
Yes, I have a Food Lion less than 5 minutes away that I shop at twice a week.
There is a Food Lion in my area, and I recently got a new MVP card from participating over at Nut in a Nut Shell’s blog post in regard to Food Lion!
Yes! There is actually one within walking distance form my house! Thanks so much! I love Food Lion 🙂

We do not have one close to us, but we like to go to Duck, NC for vacation and there are 2 near where we stay!
We haven’t been to the one near us in ages. I think I need to try to go by and check out the changes.
I do my major food shopping at Walmart and Kroger and they’re twice as far away than the nearest Food Lion.
