I’ll be in Chicago later this month and have an opportunity to take this cruise in exchange for this post and another afterward. I’m really looking forward to this whole trip despite being currently between dogs.
My husband was out of town last week and I told him I got a new dog. Our ancient Chihuahua died a year ago and I am in desperate need of a puppy. Grief puppy!
But when I’m rational I agree with my husband that we are travelling too much to get a new dog..for now. I loved our little dog. She fit in my pocket, she worshiped me like a kibble-dispensing god, and she made teeny-tiny poops. The last thing is a huge benefit, trust me.
Still, I’d love to have what we call a “Real Dog”. A Real Dog is the kind of pet you see in commercials for Subaru or Tommy Hilfiger—a majestic animal like a Golden Retriever or a Husky.
I’d name this kind of dog Fang or Sobaka II (rest in peace Sobaka the First!) and he would ride shotgun on my many travel adventures. Sobaka II would help me fight crime, rescue kids from wells, and generally make the world safe for democracy and high-quality footwear.
In Chicago (weather permitting from April to October) my awesome dog could accompany me on a scenic Seadog cruise of the Chicago lakefront launching from the Navy Pier.

I don’t know if a regular dog would like a boat cruise with a fireworks show, but Sobaka II sure would. If you visit Chicago, consider checking out Seadog Cruises. I’ll let you know in a few weeks what it was like.
