I’m not planning on dying soon, but this summer is nearly kaput. Some kids are already back to school. We start back when the local public schools do, the week after Labor Day.
I’m just not ready for new pencils and shopping for plaid until September. It won’t drop into the 80’s until then anyway. It just doesn’t seem right.
I’ve made a list of things I want to do before I declare this summer fully used up.
- Go on an insane cross-country car trip with all six of us.
- Watch the sun rise over water.
- Go on a boat.
- Bury my feet in the sand.
- Look for dolphins.
- Swim in a lake.
- Drink a Coke in Atlanta.
- Eat Blue Bell ice cream in Texas.
- Take a picture of my kids ALL smiling (without Photoshop).
- Eat shrimp in New Orleans.
Go bowling.8/6/2011- Hold a car wash to raise money for my Girl Scout troop.
- Drink sweet tea with friends on a porch or deck.
- Eat as many local tomatoes and as much fresh basil as I can stand.
- Buy sweet corn from a farm stand.
- Take the kids for ice cream or slushies from a place where you have to walk up to a window to order.
- Ride a rollercoaster.
This sounds like an ambitious goal, but I think I can get a lot of these done this month.
Do you have any specific things you’d like to accomplish by summer’s end?

That’s one ambitious list Nota! Alas, my bucket has holes in it and all hope of summer has drained out. Family obligations, commitments, needs. But – I will have a Coke Zero (maybe with or without a little rum) in your honor when I fly to Atlanta next week.
Ooh, have fun! I love everything about Atlanta except the traffic.
I want to stay home for one full day. Not an overly ambitious desire, eh?

I think that’s something to accomplish! I love having a day at home with everyone there and no place to go.
I’m one of the lucky ones with kids back in school. I’m finally getting ready to recap on how we did on our Summer Bucket list.
I look forward to reading that!
Hmmm…I want toget my house totally finished. Visit at least two more galleries, tour a winery, get all of my babes’ stuff sorted out and donate what isn’t needed anymore and then I guess I’ll get my classroom set to go.
You are on fire!
I went to a vineyard last week with my cousin. There are hundreds around here. The one we went to is also a restaurant and the food was delicious!
I like everything on that list…especially the one about friends on a deck/porch and sweet tea.
My one ambition is to get a couple quilts finished in the next couple of weeks.
Are you making full-sized quilts or baby quilts?
You have an exceedingly full August ahead of you!
Part of me admires you. Part of me envies you. Part of me is thanking God I’m not you.
You’re just going to have to decide for you which items on your list go with which of my reactions.
😆
It’s the car trip, right? Try to contain your envy.
Sleep?
I’ll sleep when I’m dead.
(Actually, I had a lovely nap yesterday. I never get a nap!)
We;ve travelled, we’ve slept in, but all I’ve really been wanting to do is buy an ice cream from the ice cream man or go to the snow cone stand… I have not been able to locate either. The funny thing is that I see the ice cream man more in the fall than in the summer!
From one Not Supermom to another, I invite you to come visit, and we will bury toesies in the sand together. 😀
This is an AWESOME idea. I’m going to sit down & make a last bit of Summer bucketlist, too. And then maybe a Fall one, & a Christmas one.
We just checked “camp in the yard” off this week. I haven’t made popsicles once this year, time to get on it!
