How To Fix a Bad Hair Day
I recently got my hair done at my favorite salon. When I walk in I’m a mess with an inch of white roots and shaggy layers. I say, “Fix it, Amy!” and she does. Still, Amy doesn’t come to my house the next day, after I’ve slept on my face and this happens.
Sorry, Beyonce, but I woke up like this. And while I can never get my hair as nice as Amy does at the salon, I have learned a few fixes for major bedhead.
Dry Shampoo
I always thought dry shampoo was gross. My mom used it in college in the 60s, and I always wondered why you would use it instead of just washing your hair. Now I see dry shampoo helps perk up a blowout on day two or even day three. Keep the ends sleek while you reset those bangs and refresh the parts of your ‘do that get a little oily.
Flat Iron
God bless whoever invented the flat iron. It’s a hair miracle for me. Sure, my hair is straight, but a flat iron makes it sleek, and even shinier. The most important thing about using a flat iron is having your hair completely dry. Otherwise the cuticle on your hair will steam like a dumpling.
A Detangling Brush
My favorite detangling brush has two different kinds of bristles. It goes through hair that’s either wet or dry equally well. I’ve used another kind with no handle that feels like a horse’s brush, but did an amazing job detangling my daughter’s curly hair before she washes it.
My cousin is a stylist and recommends for refreshing crazy bedhead like mine to spritz in dry shampoo around the hairline and part, let it sit a few minutes, then brush the bangs into place while hitting them with warm air from your hairdryer. Touch up with a flat iron as needed.
