My dad tells me stories about how much my grandfather loved cars. He loved that feeling of trading up and having the latest, coolest features. Fifty years after,Dad has the same new-car fever. We like to try things first and be in the know. Even now, Dad drives a hybrid car and has done for years.
I remember reading Dad’s copies of Popular Mechanics magazine when I was a kid and loving the articles about the cars of the future: electric! self-driving! FM radio!
Because of this family connection to the thrill you get from a new car, I’m pretty excited to be going to the Washington D.C. Auto Show this week. I’m working with Chevrolet to learn more about the new Chevy Volt.
I remember my first Chevy. It was a little early-80s Chevy Chevette on loan from my step-mom. The car was cream colored. Hatchback. My ticket to freedom and the open, parentless road.
As the mom of two young drivers, and a THIRD child getting her license next month, I’m especially excited to go to the DC Auto Show and learn about all the latest features that would be great, not just for me, but also for my kids who drive.
From the research I’ve been doing ahead of my trip, it looks like Chevrolet is working hard to please a new generation of customers. Chevrolet wants their cars, trucks and crossovers to offer engaging performance, world-class safety features, and easy-to-use technology.
This year Chevrolet will introduce five new cars with 25 new technologies that improve safety, performance and fuel efficiency. All models — from Spark to Silverado and Corvette — will offer technologies like 4GLTE, MyLink and Active Fuel Management.
I’m especially looking forward to seeing (and maybe sitting in) the new 2016 Chevy Volt! All these years after reading Popular Mechanics, it looks like the Car of the Future is here.

I will be interested in what you think of the Volt. I wish I lived closer and we could go to the car show together.
I was just at the Boston car show with Chevy and She Buys Cars. I learned so much and had a great time!
What a beautiful car! It’s so sleek. I bet an auto show would be tons of fun for car enthusiasts.
momontherun96@gmail.com @MusingsfromMe I’m excited to see you Thursday! Would love to take my family to the show over the weekend!
Hi! I’m @arnebya on Twitter. Every year we say we’re going to go but never do, even though the convention ctr is only 20 minutes away.
I can’t wait to see what cars interest you while you’re at the show. It’s a family tradition of our s to go to the car show every year, and Chevy is always a favorite brand. Have a great time!
Sounds like a fun time! 🙂

I have always gone to the car show they have here every year. My son is going to get his first car soon so we are going to take him this year.
I wish I was near DC so I could go to the show! The new Chevy Volt looks awesome. Love the style! It’s not your Dad’s Chevy anymore. 🙂
What a gorgeous car! My husband and I have been looking to get an electric or hybrid car, and the Volt looks great.
I remember the Chevette my girlfriend drove. We both LOVED that car! So much fun, so much pep! The Volt looks like it could have some really cool features! Would really value your feedback on it!
Looks like it would be a great show to attend! Wish we lived closer and could attend. We enjoy looking at new cars and getting a peek at all the new features! Have fun.
I want to go check out an Auto Show. The one in LA always looks pretty neat. It’s fun to see what new and innovative things companies are coming up with in vehicles.
Woo that car looks super slick. I’m interested to hear more about its fuel efficiency.
That sounds like a blast. I would love to be able to check out all of the new cars all in one place. Can’t wait to hear more about the Volt.
We had a Chevette when our oldest two were little. I don’t think I could have imagined a Chevy Volt back then.
As a born and raised New York City girl I don’t drive and take mass transit pretty much everywhere. When I was younger I would go to the Auto Show with my older cousins. Some day I am going to have to bite the bullet and learn to drive I guess! LOL

I would love to hear about that. Let us know.
What a nice looking car! Attending an auto show sounds like a lot of fun.
I’d love a new car! And… I happen to live in the DC area!
I am a classic car junkie. My first car was a 1976 Camaro. I was thrilled! I had been in love with muscle cars since a young age. My uncles worked for Ford and GM and I can remember them always rebuilding cars. I love going to car shows to see the new stuff but I always gravitate towards the classics.
The Volt is a nice looking car! We went to a car show last year in Atlanta (my first) and I was surprised at how fun the visit was.
My son lives in the area. I’ll have to tell him about the show @mail4rosey
I’ve never been to an auto show before! Looks like it would be so much fun! I love car shopping!
This looks like a blast. My husband loves cars so we may need to take a trip the next time the DC Auto Show is in town.
Great looking car! We have a chevy and we love it!
Sounds like a fun time. I haven’t been to an auto show in years. When I was growing up in Detroit, it was the thing to do. Every year!
We love the Auto Show. It’s such a fun day for the whole family.
