I’ve been using a new social media app called Yappem. It’s a website/app where you connect with friends, groups, and brands to rate and discuss shopping experiences. By completing these “brand missions” you earn points that redeemable in gift cards.
Missions earn about 100 points (thought it seems to vary), and it takes a few thousand points to earn the lowest level of gift card. You have to work it to earn a gift card, but it doesn’t seem out of reach. One really good thing is the gift cards are from companies you know and use, like Amazon, Gap, and Zappos.
Here are details straight from Yappem:
Users creatively post to the feed their own brand and product experiences, good or bad, and earn virtual Yappem Coins. The feed posting category options are:
- Experience: Share your experience, related to brands, products and people.
- Suggestion: Offer an idea or advice to a brand or your followers.
- Support: Ask your followers and the brand community for help.
- Compare: Compare two products or brands side-by-side to get input.
Once the user banks enough Yappem Coins, earned through missions, they can be exchanged for a multitude of discounts, deals and gift cards from their favorite stores and major retailers.
Yappem is built on the power of taking the user from the “keyboard-to-sidewalk.” The rewards program bridges the gap between the virtual world and the real world. Yappem is available on yappem.com, as well as the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
You can also follow Yappem on Twitter and Facebook.
I signed up for Yappem because they were the brand sponsor of an event I attended last week called “The Awesome Party.” And awesome it was.
Under the glass roof of Crystal Gardens at Chicago’s Navy Pier, there was quite a fun party with great food and beverages and some pretty amazing raffles. Yappem raffled off items from Louboutin, Coach, Kate Spade, Michael Kors, Apple, Samsung and more.
There were two grand prizes of $12,000 shopping sprees won by Anne Hogan and Danielle Smith. Anne vows to spend her winnings on world peace and shoes. That sounds about right. Here she is walking to accept her oversized novelty check. Adorable!
My friend Chloe won an amazing pair of shoes. They are either Louboutins or Manolos. Whatever they were, they were fab-u-lous.
I’d like to thank Yappem and the party hosts Barbara Jones, Liz Gumbiner, and Kristin Chase for putting on such an amazing event. It was a blast to put on a cocktail dress and heels and be wined and dined. I didn’t even have to cut up anyone’s dinner!
Here’s a fun little video of highlights from the Yappem party. Look close and you may see me embarrassing myself on the dance floor.

I enjoyed that party a lot! I wasn’t a winner but the food, drink, and venue were great.
