I have a busy week I’m avoiding. Thursday night I’m driving to a friends house so we can leave early Friday morning to go to a homeschool convention.
I’ll be gone all day Friday and will return home Saturday night. I’m trying not to let my kids barely concealed glee get me down.
They are excited about eating ramen three times a day and not showering.
For my kids, ramen holds the promise of a stay-cation, when Daddy’s in charge and if you don’t bring yourself to his attention you can pretty much do as you like. It’s like Lord of the Flies with noodles.
Mommy let’s you eat Nutella straight from the jar? Okay!
Mommy says you can juggle fire in the living room? Just remember to stop, drop and roll.
I have mixed emotions about my trip. Partially because I’ll miss my husband and kids and partially because I’m concerned about coming home to singed drapes.
My little secret is this trip is the Mommy version of what they’ll be doing. I’ll be eating Nutella from the jar in a hotel room and taking a shower without fingers wagging under the gap in the bathroom door.
We’ll go to our state convention together, but to go to this one farther away it just made financial sense for me to go alone with friends.
Are you going to away without your family any time soon?
Oh how great, enjoy! I have only a few times gone away without the family. A very strange sensation, but healthy, I think! Especially when spending time with old friends.
The hubby lets the children eat junky cereal while I'm away. I pretend not to care. So actually they lobby for it to happen far more often than it does 😀
Typical. I never buy bad cereal, but there's always a mostly-empty box of it when I get back.
Now that my kids are bigger, I find I can go away. Five years ago, my younger kids were just too little.
It's very refreshing for all of us.
Love your blog about books! Hope some of my friends from here will check it out.
Are you sure you don't have any of that concealed glee? I think a shower (better yet, a bath…) without the fingers wagging is calling your name…bring the Nutella to the bathroom with you…
No, I am going away WITH my family soon. Long road trip. But my family has shrunk so it will be an interesting new page. fern
I don't think my glee is even barely concealed. 🙂 I love road trips when no one asks me if we are there yet.

Hehe!!! Funny!!! I can so relate to enjoying an uninterrupted shower. My husband is doing orientation for his new job – 2 1/2 hours away from home – He asked if I would go with him…without the kiddos! YES!!! I will get a couple evenings alone with my sweety and a couple days alone – as in All By Myself! Mammaw and Pappaw are happy, the kids are happy, Mommy and Daddy are happy… Come On Weekend!
You have a great trip and enjoy your weekend.
Ooh, away-time in a hotel with husband is even better than girlfriend time. You have fun!
Lord of the Flies with noodles! LOL!
Last time I got away from all of 'em was 8 years ago, and there were fewer of 'em to get away from. It was a homeschool convention. 🙂

Lord of the Flies with noodles made me laugh out loud!
Denial is not just a river in Egypt. It flows down the aisles of homeschool conventions nationwide.
"Mommy says you can juggle fire in the living room? Just remember to stop, drop and roll."
Makes sense to me… [smile]
Have fun.. and remember to drink directly out of the orange juice container.. just for good measure. 😉
icklepay, EIGHT YEARS? Wow. You must still have little kids. I know I didn't go anywhere for about a decade.
Susan, it do indeed.
Luke, it's that man-logic.
Nota, you make me smile.
Don't I wish! We have several long car trips planned ~ one without the hubster to Fla ~ at least a 12 hr car trip. What was I thinking. I was just happy to be running errands without them yesterday!
Thank you, Carrie!
Barb, 12 hours with no backup!?! You are one brave woman. I still enjoy going to the grocery store alone. Bliss.
Funny…..a friend and I were just talking about this. "Oh Mom, your going somewhere? YAY!!! Daddy gets to babysit us!!!!!" Sigh…..Deep down inside, they really like mommy babysitting better. That's what I tell myself anyway.
Daddy-babysitting is so much more fun, although I tell them you can't babysit your own children–it's just parenting. They don't care because there are snacks involved.
Awww so did u enjoy your conference? Did they miss u?! I bet they weren’t able to survive w/o u!! Just stopping through hope you have a great week!
