The Cause:
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, the month when you are inundated by a wave of pink ribbons on products from candles to clothes to anti-fungal creams.
Part of “raising awareness” encourages all women to perform regular self-exams, and for women over forty to seek the recommended well-woman care.
When I was thirty-six or -seven I found a lump during my monthly self-exam. There were a few sweaty, anxious days until I could get into my doctor. For me it was nothing but a small cyst, and my OBGYN recommended I cut back on the coffee. It was nothing, but I’m glad I had it checked out.
Now I get annual mammograms, usually the same week as my birthday. It’s my present from our insurance for getting older. I would rather have candy.
Mammograms hurt me and I hate them (thanks, little boobs), but I do it like clockwork because breast cancer runs in my family.
I do it for Aunt Millie, who ignored it. For Aunt Mary Edith who beat it into submission and remission and got more than another decade before it came back.
For my husband, who has already lost too much to cancer. For my kids, who still need me.
I do it in honor of my friend who caught it early and beat it, and out of love for my friend who found it early but can’t seem to beat it no matter how hard she fights.
Raising awareness for breast cancer detection and prevention by means of the pink ribbon and all products pink is great, but what’s even better is giving money to breast cancer research.
How You Can Help:
Now through the end of October, you can buy specially marked boxes of Freschetta pizza and help them reach their goal of a $50,000 donation to the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
To support the Freschetta PROUD TO SUPPORT PINK program, look for the code on the back of your specially marked box of Freschetta pizza and enter it at www.ProudToSupportPink.com. One dollar will be donated for every code entered, up to $50,000.
Check out the site for a $1 coupon, a place to share your story, or for a chance to win one of fifty pink iPods given away each week in October.
Freschetta is also donating fifty pink iPods each week in October to one of four cancer centers for use by patients undergoing breast cancer treatment.
The Giveaway:
One of y’all will win right here:
- A coupon for any one Freschetta pizza, free!
- Two pairs of pink earphones, one for you and one for you to give away to an IRL friend or family member as a reminder of proactive health.
I won’t benefit off a breast cancer awareness giveaway, so this is going to be very simple.
I member of the Freschetta Fresh Connection Team. Freschetta provided me with product to review and is providing the same for this giveaway. All opinions, thoughts and ideas in this post are strictly my own.

I laughed at your comment on my site’s post “5 Sure Signs You Haven’t Been Working Out” about the French bakery! Thanks for that grin. I can relate-especially as I sit here with a small bowl of ice cream with my mid morning coffee. 🙂 You’ll be proud of me though… I ran again this week!
Thanks for stopping by my site again. I grinned with you.
Your breast cancer awareness reminder here is good. I’ll have to go check… Thank you.

Self-checks and annual mammograms are so important!
I would give them to my mother if I won. She is awesome.
They are cute little earphones in a storage case. A nice little gift.
My daughter who can’t keep a set of earphones for more than a few months, God love her.
Indeed. My second set is for one of my daughters too.
It was a good opportunity to talk to her about taking care of herself. We may be all pinked out, but there’s a new generation coming up. I hope it will be better for them.
Beautiful post! I would give my set to either my daughter or best friend.
Thanks
Good luck, Amber!
I would give the 2nd set to my daughter who hates loud noises when we’re outside! Thanks for the reminder to get the yearly mammo. I hate them, but have had 3! Hopping back over from Hobbies on a Budget
They stink. I always make sure to do something nice, like go to Starbucks or get my nails done afterward.
Thanks for stopping by from the hop. My aunt is a breast cancer survivor. I’m entering this. love pizza and my daughter loves pink so she would love some headphones. we can’t keep them around. the dog eats them!
btw I tried to subscribe to your feed in return, and the link just takes me to a page full of code. =( I will follow other ways though!
Amanda, if you are using Chrome, you need a plug-in from the Google Chrome web store. Chrome doesn’t have a built-in RSS feed handler.
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/nlbjncdgjeocebhnmkbbbdekmmmcbfjd?hc=search&hcp=main should take you there.
oh and I’m not sure who would get the second set. honestly I have two daughters who would fight over them…but maybe my sister in law. she’s forever got headphones shoved in her ears. 😉
That sounds painful!
I would keep 1 and give 1 to my mom.
Good daughter!
I would totally give them to my daughter.
They are both useful and cute.
Keep one for me and give the other to my daughter
thanks
Daughter or mom seem to be popular choices. Good luck!
My mom because she loves pink as much as me!!
They are a cute pale pink and I love that they have a little storage case.
My sister or mom! tracietrump@yahoo.com
Good luck!
I would give them to my daughter.
I love your cat avatar!
I would give them to my sister!
Good luck, Jessica!
I would give a second pair of earphones to my sister!
I seriously LOVE that Freschetta is donating iPods to cancer centers. When I was going through chemo, watching TV and reading made me nauseous. I would have loved to listen to some relaxing music while sitting in that chair waiting for my treatment to be over! An iPod would have been AWESOME!
It’s nice to hear that what they are doing will be useful and appreciated.
I am always wary of “pink-washing”, but it sounds like Freschetta is putting their money where their mouth is.
I would give them to one of my daughters…
Headphones are a necessity in our home. It is a matter of survival!
Our lives changed when I started letting them listen to music while they did school work. Very helpful.
My dear niece 🙂 *Thanks* for the giveaway!
My pleasure, Cheryl!
Awesome post. It is so important to be aware and remind women to take care of their bodies with BSEs. Breast cancer awareness month isn’t just an excuse to talk about boobs and wear t-shirts with snappy tag lines – it’s about really reminding women how to take care of ourselves!
Thanks!
Yes! And there is a new generation we are making aware right now.
I hope they will feel totally comfortable with BSE and making sure to get well-woman care.
Thank you so much for sharing the Proud to Support Pink program with your readers. Congratulations to the winner of the giveaway.
Sincerely,
The FRESCHETTA™ FRESH CONNECTION™ Team
Thanks to you and Freschetta for the nice giveaway and the company’s commitment to helping women with cancer.
