I’m not very fashionable. My mom uniform is usually jeans and a t-shirt.
This week, though, I have been swept up in a fashion furor. I’d been looking at fashion blogs about what was hot for fall and getting excited about some of the retro colors and styles.
Then I read Missoni was bringing a collection of its signature zigzag or floral prints to the masses via Target.
Missoni’s Italian style reminds me of how my mother dressed when I was little. Her hair was long and dark and tied back with a silk scarf.
She had beautiful dresses and shoes and always looked glamorous and pulled together when she went out or had ladies over for bridge parties.
My dad was still active duty Army when I was little and an officer’s wife had to look sharp and entertain often.
And wear sunglasses.
The Missoni style reminds me so much of my mom’s style and the colors and prints that were fashionable when I was a little girl dreaming of dressing like a grown-up lady.
Target’s sales of Missoni clothes and home goods started today with a bang.
According to the clerk at my Target, even thought the thumbnail pictures of the products never uploaded this morning, things were flying off the site. That means people were buying not even knowing what the product looked like.
By the time I check Target.com this morning, the site had crashed. I still don’t think it’s up.
My local Target store opened at 8. Women poured in right away, filling carts. The clerk said I was the first person to buy less than $200 worth of Missoni items.
There were still some kitchen goods, knit hats and gloves, children’s wear, some of the pajamas and robes and a few of the women’s clothing articles, but all the pillows and throws were sold out and I got the LAST TOTE.
Almost every department, from girls’ apparel to socks has new products bearing the iconic zigzag design. Coffee mugs, picture frames, but not toilet paper really. (Missoni Corp., please get on that.)
Before I checked out, I ran to the back of the store to get dog food. As I was walking back down the main aisle to the cashiers I had the tote on my arm.
A worker stepped out from Girls Department, stared at my tote and called to another employee, “Giiiiirl, come look at this bag!”
I said, “Isn’t it pretty? I just got the last one!” She told me one women came in at 9 after already buying things at two other Targets. She still filled a cart.
Two other shoppers with me were underwhelmed. My girls kept mock-gagging themselves and pretending to vomit up zigzags.
Tomorrow I’m going to start a giveaway for my large brown Missoni tote. You can pre-enter right now by leaving me a comment on this post. Also, you can come back tomorrow for additional entries.
What’s your favorite piece from the Missoni collection? Have you been to the website or the store today?

Dang, that’s crazy. I tried to get on the website today, no luck. I don’t even know what anything looks like!
I did an image search for “Missoni Target” and could see some promotional photos for some items.
I love me a good bag. I wanna win.
Good luck!
I like the bicycle.
When I see some of that stuff, I am reminded the afghan made for my family of origin, in the 70’s, that was made by the lady who crocheted toilet paper “hat”/covers. Zig zag rust/brown/cream.
Do you know what I’m talking about?
Yes, my grandmother made toilet roll covers. Hers had doll faces. I remember the zigzag afghans.
I think nostalgia is a big part of the Missoni appeal.
I wasn’t able to get on the target site either, gave me a “woof” page, lol. I love all the dresses, I spotted them in an ad during the previews of the smurf movie and I love the dresses and flat shoes! you can see some of the collection via facebook:http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.261915133821363.73304.195794080433469&closeTheater=1
Thanks for the link. Lots of cute sweaters that were sold out of my Target before lunch.
I guess I’m deprived, I don’t remember my mom wearing zig zags!
My mom was a fashion maven. At least as much as you can be in Tennessee. 😀
Missoni lovers unite! I wish I could have scored one of the scarves – I love the blue/brown colorway (like your tote)! I’ve called 3 stores inquiring about stock. Supposively there will be some items replenished tomorrow morning *fingers-crossed*. I love the zig-zag motif; reminds me of a crocheted blanket my Mom made me. Please pick me for your tote, Nota Supermom 🙂
I think people who like it, like it in part due to nostalgia.
I tried to go on target’s website today for an unrelated search. I was shocked when I got the “target is really popular” page and I couldn’t get anything to load! Now I know why 🙂
I have to say though, the zig zag prints are super cute!!
It’s still down and it’s almost 9 at night!
Would LOVE a pretty bag. Would love a FREE pretty bag.
Do you still like me even if I mention that the picture of that cute bag is the exact pattern of the CARPET my gramma had in her house while I was growing up? Shows you how much I knew back then, I thought it was u.g.l.y. – she apparently was just SO cutting edge.
Never underestimate Grandma!
The bag is going for $50 and up on eBay!
I knew nothing about this until now. I guess I am not hip 😆
Or you are so beyond hip that you are the hippest!
I have never heard of it, but I’ve had a zigzag kind of day. Your post totally perked up my spirits. Thanks.
Thanks, Heidi. I live to perk!
I am so not with it! I had no idea! I almost went to Target tonight, I probably would have still been clueless as it sounds like it is all sold out! 😕 I love the bag though! And your boy is beautiful! You look a lot like her. I could have sworn it was you if the pics were in color.
I look painfully like my mother. The worst part is knowing what I will look like in 28 years.
I think the press at Target was this morning. Perhaps again tomorrow if they restock tonight.
So, until this very moment I did not know that this designer existed. Nor would I have gone to Target to buy up $200 worth of new stuff. All that said, I love the tote and would buy that if one existed at my Target. Hopefully, I’ll win one instead.
I know! I felt decadent buying a $35 tote bag.
Tote bags are something they give away for free at homeschool conventions.
You look just like your mom! She was a looker. 😀 I <3 the bike!! The bag is wonderful too…
Mom’s almost 70 and has still got it going on.
I thought Susan was joking about the bike. What a clever idea.
I had no idea either, so I guess I am hopelessly out of fashion! I do like the tote and the umbrella, but the clothes are a bit much for me. I like splashes of color as accessories, but not all over my body. javascript:grin(‘’)
The post so nice, you made it twice!

I thought the styling for the ads was ridiculous.
I’d wear one piece over neutrals, but they had models in a dress, cardigan, cap, gloves, stockings and hat.
It looked like Charlie Brown’s shirt threw up.
The bicycle!! LOVE!!!
Isn’t it cute? I’m the only one here without a bike.
I want one with a daisy basket and bell, like Phoebe got on Friends.
Well that bag looks really good, but the bike would be cool too! And I was at the store, because I heard about it but so clueless that I thought some of the Mossimo stuff was Missoni. Didn’t particularly like it but it was in the Missoni section and none of teh Missoni stuff was. There was one cool lime corduroy jacket left in the whole store.
Wow, picked clean, huh?
I wonder what they are going to use to fill all the Missoni display areas for the next six weeks?
I don’t get the mad-Beattles-fan-style mob at the Target, but I’ll play. 😀
It wasn’t like that when I was there. There was just one other lady looking at the giant hats with us.
Insanity! I’ll enter your giveaway but I won’t enter a Target and buy Missoni. I have a rant but I will spare you… that is not what your blog is all about 😉
Secondly, speaking as an Officer’s wife – I am so glad some things have changed. I am not required to look sharp and entertain often – only sometimes and only when I feel like it.
The only zig-zags I remember worn were on a sweater my brother word with striped pants.
I don’t really care for the Missoni bag (is that allowed here?!) so I hope someone else wins it!

I don’t know if I’m too late or what, but I’d love me some zig zags. I may even get over my polka dot crush, who knows. I, too, am reminded of an afghan or three that we had when I was growing up. Not sure I’m into wearing them on my plump body, but I’d love me some shoes and a bag with the zigzag 🙂
Oh you lucky !
I am like totally depressed I could not get my little hands on anything!
Totally looking forwarD to your giveaway !
